Hank Williams & Anita Carter

Sixty years since Hank Williams died, vintage tv doesn’t get much better than this…

8mm film transfer

All those trains on Saturday were so I could take a 50 year old standard 8mm film projector to Ann’s where Adam was to transfer some old home movies to video. Ann took some pictures of the process…

After eventually re-discovering how to thread the film onto the projector (it’s not right in the photos above!) he managed to produce some quite acceptable results…

This was taken around 1964 and contains the only moving pictures I know of my father, he was nearly always the cameraman.

Pale Blue Eyes

My favourite Velvet Underground track varies frequently, at the moment it’s this…

Sometimes I feel so happy,
Sometimes I feel so sad.
Sometimes I feel so happy,
But mostly you just make me mad.
Baby, you just make me mad.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.

Thought of you as my mountain top,
Thought of you as my peak.
Thought of you as everything,
I’ve had but couldn’t keep.
I’ve had but couldn’t keep.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.

If I could make the world as pure and strange as what I see,
I’d put you in the mirror,
I put in front of me.
I put in front of me.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.

Skip a life completely.
Stuff it in a cup.
She said, Money is like us in time,
It lies, but can’t stand up.
Down for you is up.”
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.

It was good what we did yesterday.
And I’d do it once again.
The fact that you are married,
Only proves, you’re my best friend.
But it’s truly, truly a sin.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.

Boxing Day Songs

I couldn’t think of any songs about, or even mentioning Boxing Day, but a quick YouTube search came up with these two.

First Elvis Costello performing TKO (Boxing Day) on Tyne Tees TV’s The Tube after the programme had gone off air but with the cameras still running (obviously)…

And in a pub in Derbyshire  on Boxing Day 2008 here’s Helen Morris performing her self-composed Boxing Day Song

The Jean Genie – David Bowie

Live TOTP performance broadcast on Wednesday night for the first time since January 1973. Thought to be lost, the fish eye camera operator John Henshsall had kept a personal copy while the BBC had wiped its own…

Top of the Pops – 29th January 1970

Peggy Sue

This is Kenny’s karaoke version. I know he has video of me singing a Johnny Cash song, thought I’d get my revenge in first!
